Day 6 (Day 1 with Grand European Tours)

On the first day in the hands of Grand European Tours I was surrounded by "older people". My God! They looked like tourists! Surely we are not like them. We are veterans of the Roman bus system, no longer jet lagged. We have made our way on foot from the Ponte d' Angelo to the Victor Emmanule three times and to the Treve Fountain and stumbled quite accidently onto the Piazza Narvano without a clue whatit was (until we read later that it was the site of an ancient racetrack). But when Ricardo, the overall tour guide, and Ulysse, today's guide, began to do their stuff, I was converted. We were taken in a comfortable bus to the bernini colonnades, with 284 doric pillers, and 140 statues of martyrs above the colonnade. We'd seen them before, but did not know who was responsible for them or how many there were.
