The Prisoners
The prisoners were part of a massive tomb for Michelangelo's patron Pope Julius II. When Michelangelo did not complete the forty sculptures, Pope Julius abandoned the idea and directed Michelangeloto paint the Sistine Chapel instead. Ricardo loves these unfinished works because they "make Michelangelo accessible in a way that the David conceals behind its very renown".
